Client Spotlight: Sophie

Updated: 5 days ago

We’re excited to launch a new feature on the epYc blog: Client Spotlights — a celebration of the incredible journeys within our pole and yoga community.

Each month, we’ll be shining the light on one of our members to share their story, their wins, and the ways pole and yoga have shaped their lives.

This month, we’re spotlighting Sophie — who joined epYc as a quiet, nervous beginner and has since grown into an advanced poler, competition winner, and one of our inspiring instructors.

✨ Meet Sophie

At 26, Sophie is a familiar face in our Monmouth studio — known for her flowing style, quiet determination, and the encouragement she brings to every class she teaches.

But her story begins in South Wales, where she grew up dancing ballet, tap, and modern before stepping away from the studio at just 11 years old.

Her first encounter with pole came years later, at university, when she was searching for a sport that wasn’t the usual netball or football. She gave pole a try, loved it, but only dipped her toes in at the time. Still, the spark was there.

💪 Her journey with epYc

Fast forward to January 2022, when Sophie joined our Pontypool studio as a beginner. She quickly discovered that pole wasn’t going to be easy:

“Pole dancing is so much harder than I thought it was going to be. I knew I hadn’t been working on my upper body in the gym, but I still didn’t think it would be this hard.”

What started as just one pole fitness class a week snowballed into four classes, plus yoga and pole flow, by the end of that first year. Sophie was hooked, and when our Monmouth studio opened in summer 2022, she became one of the first through the doors.

🌸 Favourite trick and class

When it comes to tricks, Sophie’s favourite is the Ballerina — a beautiful combination of flexibility and grace whilst staying upright.

“It sounds weird, but I hate going upside down. Learning new tricks upside down always takes me longer than a trick upright. I don't know what it is, but anything that requires strength and control upright, like a Flair, I've picked up quickly. But for moves like the Inverted Thigh Hold or Brass Monkey, they can take me months, years to master.”

Back in 2022, Sophie’s clear favourite was pole fitness. But over time, something shifted:

“My love for flow has really grown over the last year. I’ve seen huge progress in my movement, and through this exploration I gained the confidence to put together my own choreography.”

🚀 Biggest achievements

When asked about her proudest moments, Sophie shared two standouts:

  1. Winning her first pole competition. Despite the nerves, she pushed herself out of her comfort zone and onto the stage at ExoQueenULK 2025 and walked away with the crown.

  2. Embracing photoshoots — Sophie looks back at her first shoot in summer 2024 as a turning point:

“I was awkward and nervous. Now, looking at my 2025 shoots, I see a confident, sexy woman who knows her style. I love sharing what I’ve learnt with clients in the photoshoots I now host.”

At epYc, Sophie has become our very own Photoshoot Curator — guiding others through the experience, helping them feel comfortable in front of the camera, and creating a safe, empowering space where clients can celebrate themselves.

If you'd like to get involved with Sophie's next photoshoot taking place in October, here are the details.

💬 In her own words

“My life has completely changed since stepping through the door at epYc. Eve and the other instructors shaped my pole knowledge and style — pushing me when I had tantrums in the corner and celebrating me when I finally nailed a trick.
The other clients at epYc have also added so much joy to my life. I’ve made amazing connections with so many beautiful souls in my own classes. Now, as an instructor, I love being able to teach and watch others grow in their own journeys.”

🌟 Final thoughts

We’re so proud of the progress Sophie has made in her pole and yoga journey at epYc. Not only has she advanced quickly in strength and tricks, but she’s also grown into a wonderful, inspiring instructor.

Sophie is proof that it’s not about how many years of experience you have — it’s about the time, effort, and passion you put in every week that truly shapes your progress.
