What to Expect on Your First Pole Class: A Beginner's Guide

Writer's picture: Eve Pole and YogaEve Pole and Yoga

Embarking on your first pole dancing class can feel both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. With everything being new and a tad confusing, it's normal to experience a mix of emotions. But fear not, as we're here to guide you through what to expect on your maiden pole dancing journey.

1. Taking it Easy: At our studio, we understand that your first class can feel overwhelming. That's why we focus on easing you into the world of pole dancing, prioritizing coordination, and strength-building. You'll learn basic flows and transitions, setting the foundation for future progress.

2. Building Strength: Over the initial 7-14 weeks, our goal is to cultivate essential grip and arm strength. This forms the cornerstone for mastering more advanced tricks and spins down the line. Don't worry if you're not lifting yourself effortlessly on the first try – building strength takes time, and we're here to support your journey every step of the way.

3. Learning Transitions and Spins: During your first session, expect to learn two transitions and two spins. These fundamental movements will serve as building blocks for future routines. Remember, repetition is key, and you'll revisit these transitions and spins countless times to refine your technique and fluidity.

4. Emphasizing Good Habits: From day one, we prioritize instilling good habits. This includes using proper technique, focusing on fluidity, and creating seamless flows rather than simply mastering isolated tricks or spins. By laying a strong foundation early on, you'll progress more efficiently as you advance in your pole dancing journey.

5. No Pressure to Master Everything: It's important to remember that pole dancing is a journey, not a destination. We don't expect you to master everything in your first session, or even your first few sessions. Take your time, be patient with yourself, and trust in the process – progress will come with dedication and practice.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Leaves

''I have become so much stronger. I can almost do a wheel pose and I can lean right back now down to the floor on my quads. I could never do this before! I did yoga and pole to begin with just to help my back pain, but I feel so much more flexible now and stronger overall. I don't even think of my back as an issue anymore. I have loved your classes Eve. Thank you for all the effort, it is greatly appreciated.''

Leaves

'' For everyone wanting to learn pole, I couldn't recommend Eve enough! She make all the classes a joy!! Even when we are remote! I'm exited for when the studio reopens. Training with Eve has given me such love for a pole in such a short space of time! I never knew my body could be this strong and I wouldn't have ever dreamt I could have achieved this much in such a short space of time!''

Tropical Leaves

''Really couldn't have gained this confidence without the best teacher and the best classes with Eve's Pole and yoga. I never stick at an exercise class and i've been here for over 2 years now. I've learned so much, I am very much in love with pole and i won't be giving it up anytime soon!

if you ever want to try something new, build your strength or even your confidence, give Eve a message because she is an amazing woman, cannot thank you enough xx''
