Eve's Diary: Let Go of High Expectations in Pole Dancing ✨

Let’s talk about something that comes up a lot in pole — expectations.
When we start pole dancing, it’s easy to set the bar sky-high. We want to nail that invert in a week, climb gracefully, or flow like the dancers we see online. But here’s the truth: high expectations can quietly steal your joy.
High standards and high expectations might sound similar, but they’re completely different energies.
High standards come from a place of love and growth. They mean showing up, doing your best, pushing your limits, and celebrating your effort — even when things don’t go perfectly. It’s that inner drive that keeps you consistent and curious.
High expectations, on the other hand, come from pressure and comparison. They whisper that you “should” be further along, stronger, or more flexible. They make you focus on what you can’t do instead of all the beautiful things you already can.
And that’s where we lose the magic of pole.
Pole is a personal journey — one that fits into your life, your energy, and your body. No one else’s. You’re not behind. There’s no clock ticking. The only person you ever need to “catch up” to is the version of you from yesterday.
Some weeks you’ll feel powerful and unstoppable; other times you’ll be tired, sore, or distracted. That’s okay. It’s life. What matters most is that you keep showing up with kindness toward yourself.
Have goals, of course — they give direction and purpose. But let them inspire you, not control you. Progress in pole is not linear, and the moments where you fall, struggle, or take a step back are just as valuable as the wins.
So this month, I’m inviting you to drop the weight of high expectations. Keep your standards high — train with heart, stay curious, be patient — but leave space for joy, play, and the unexpected.
Pole dancing isn’t just about what your body can do; it’s about how it makes you feel. And when you let go of unrealistic expectations, that’s when you truly start to fly. 💫
